Head Lice

Head lice are a nuisance and many families also find them embarrassing. However, head lice are not a sign of poor hygiene – they like clean hair just as much as dirty hair! They are more of a problem in the younger grades, mainly because small children have more frequent head to head contact, but can affect humans of any age.

It is a good idea to check your child’s head at least weekly. Don’t wait until your child starts scratching as many children don’t scratch until the infestation is quite severe. If you find head lice on your school child, be sure to check every one else in the family including adults.

There are many effective ways to identify and treat head lice. One of the safest is the “Conditioner and Combing” technique. The following YouTube videos demonstrate the technique clearly:

The Conditioner and Combing Technique - originally created by Queensland Health.

Head Lice Removal Combing Techniques - created by a US head lice removing professional. His combing technique is very thorough.

Head lice combs are available from the office.  A variety of treatments are available from Proston Health and Beauty.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Miss Jess in the office, your child’s teacher or a pharmacy if you need further information. Your enquiry will be treated confidentially.
